Who runs Syl
Syl is operated by An Independent Student Developer in Irvine, CA. Syl is not affiliated with Canvas, Instructure or any university. Syl is for people 18 and older.
What Syl collects
- Your email address, and your mobile number if you choose to get texts.
- Your Canvas calendar feed link, and the assignments, due dates and course names it contains.
- Your class and work hours and anything you tell Syl about how you work.
- Messages you send to Syl and the plans Syl sends you.
How Syl uses it
- To build and send your daily plan by text or email.
- To answer your messages. Your assignments and messages are processed by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude). Syl does not include your phone number, email or Canvas feed link in what it sends to the AI model.
- Syl's founder may read conversations to improve Syl.
- Syl does not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Text messages
Syl texts you only if you check the box on the sign-up page and then reply YES to the first text. Expect about 1 message a day plus replies to your messages. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply PAUSE to pause, HELP for help, or STOP to stop texts. STOP does not delete your account or data; see Deleting your data below.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.
Who else handles your data
Syl uses service providers to run: hosting (Vercel), the database (Supabase), text messages (Twilio), email (Resend) and the AI model (Anthropic). They process data only to provide these services to Syl.
Deleting your data
To delete your data, use Delete my data in Settings or email syl.support2@gmail.com. Syl deletes its own records of your account, assignments, plans and messages within 7 days. Copies held by the service providers above are removed according to each provider's own retention period.
To make your old Canvas feed link stop working, reset it in Canvas: Calendar, then Calendar Feed, then reset.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, Syl updates the date at the top of this page. For changes that affect how your data is used, Syl emails you before they take effect.
